Iowa Security Guard Board Practice Exam 2026 – Your All-in-One Guide to Exam Success!

When a security guard witnesses a crime in progress, the appropriate action is to call emergency services. This response is critical as it ensures that law enforcement or medical assistance can be dispatched to the scene without delay. By notifying the authorities, the security guard plays a vital role in the overall safety of the situation and allows those trained to handle such incidents to intervene properly.

Additionally, calling emergency services helps to document the incident, which can be essential for any subsequent investigations or legal actions. It also allows the guard to observe the situation from a safe distance, providing valuable information, such as descriptions of the suspects or the nature of the crime, which can be relayed to the responders as they arrive.

In contrast, negotiating with suspects, engaging them directly, or running for cover are actions that could either escalate the situation or place the guard in unnecessary danger. The focus should always be on ensuring safety and allowing trained professionals to handle the response.
